What we cover
The site deals with everyday subjects such as driving alone for the first time, getting used to a different clutch, collecting a newly bought car, passengers, borrowing cars, tyre problems, warning lights, parking damage, garage visits, insurance changes and the costs that appear once a car is actually yours.
What we deliberately avoid
There are already many large websites covering generic subjects such as how to pass the driving test, lists of the cheapest first cars and basic explanations of comprehensive insurance. We would rather answer narrower questions properly than reproduce another version of information that is easy to find elsewhere.
How we write
Our house style is plain everyday UK English. The answer should appear early. We avoid padded introductions, awkward corporate wording and paragraphs that could be copied unchanged into twenty unrelated articles.
Where the answer depends on a particular insurer, car or set of circumstances, we say so instead of pretending there is one rule for everyone.
Why insurance appears here
Insurance is a major cost for many new drivers and it is closely connected to decisions about the car, where it is kept, who drives it, annual mileage, modifications and driving history. We therefore include insurance comparison links where they make sense in the article rather than trying to turn every subject into an insurance story.
