Legal does not automatically mean good value. Tyres are the car's contact with the road, so wet braking, grip, durability and suitability matter as well as price.
Start with the correct size and rating
Use tyres suitable for the car and follow the manufacturer's requirements. Do not choose purely because one listing is cheapest.
Think in cost per year, not cost per tyre
A slightly dearer tyre that performs better and lasts longer can be better value. Independent tyre tests can be useful when choosing between unfamiliar brands.
Do not mix random tyres casually
Different tyres can behave differently in wet or emergency conditions. Ask a reputable fitter about matching and placement.
Insurance will not make poor tyres safe. Maintenance and cover are separate costs, and both deserve space in a first-car budget.
