What Should You Do If You Get into the Wrong Lane?

Stay in the lane and follow it safely. Missing a turn is far better than making a sudden lane change because navigation or road sign says you should be somewhere else.

The route is not more important than the road

A navigation app will recalculate. Other drivers cannot predict a last-second swerve across painted lines. If you realise too late, continue and find a safe way back.

Watch signs earlier than you think you need to

New drivers often focus heavily on the vehicle directly ahead. Try to scan further along the road so lane signs and arrows reach you before the decision becomes urgent.

Build in spare time

Being late makes a wrong lane feel like an emergency. Leaving five or ten minutes earlier removes a surprising amount of pressure.

If your first car is mainly for town driving, use that real mileage and use when comparing insurance rather than copying an estimate from someone else.
