Not always. Brakes can squeak because of moisture or light surface rust, but persistent noise, grinding or poor braking needs attention.
Morning squeal can disappear
After rain or an overnight stop, a light film of rust can form on the discs. A brief noise that clears after normal braking may be harmless.
Grinding is different
A harsh metal-on-metal sound can mean badly worn pads or another fault. Do not keep driving in the hope it will disappear.
Feel matters too
A soft pedal, pulling under braking, vibration or a warning light should be checked even if the brakes are quiet.
Routine brake wear is normally your maintenance cost. Insurance is intended for insured events, not for worn-out service parts.
