An estimate does not need to predict the future perfectly, but it should be honest and reasonable. If your driving changes significantly, tell the insurer.
New drivers often underestimate how much they will drive
Once you have a car, extra social trips, commuting and family errands can add mileage quickly. Look at your weekly routine rather than choosing a round number because it sounds cheap.
A small difference differs as a major change
Policies vary, but an estimate becoming slightly inaccurate is different from deliberately stating 3,000 miles when you expect to drive 12,000.
Keep an eye on it during the year
Your odometer makes this easy. After three months, you will have a much better idea of annual mileage.
Try a few realistic mileage figures when comparing quotes, but use the figure that honestly reflects what you expect to drive.
