HomeSmall mistakes, real consequences
Do not simply drive away. You need to take reasonable steps to provide your details, and some circumstances require the incident to be reported to the police.

Make a proper attempt to contact the owner

Leave clear contact details where appropriate and take photographs showing the damage and location. Do not write sensitive information you would not want left publicly visible.

Record what happened

Note the time, place and circumstances while they are fresh. Photographs of both vehicles can prevent later arguments about unrelated damage.

Tell your insurer as required

Policies commonly require incidents to be reported even where you hope to settle a minor matter without a claim. Check the wording.

After any collision, the cheapest-looking option is not always the safest. Follow your policy terms and avoid private arrangements you do not fully understand.
