A different car can have a very different clutch, throttle and idle speed from the one you learnt in. Stalling after passing is common and usually says more about familiarity than ability.
Every clutch has its own feel
The biting point may be higher, lower, sharper or less obvious. A small petrol engine can also need a different amount of throttle from a diesel learner car.
Do not rush because somebody is behind you
If you stall, secure the car, restart normally and move off once there is a safe gap. Trying to recover in a panic often creates a second mistake.
Practise the boring bit
A quiet car park or gentle road can be useful for repeated starts, reversing and hill starts. Ten calm minutes can make the car feel much more predictable.
Changing from the learner car to your own can also change the insurance cost sharply, so compare the exact car rather than assuming all small hatchbacks are similar.
